The functionalty of the Surveillacne Station nor the Surveillance Station Pro is to complex and can't be done in a browser. My patience in waiting for an official clarification is wearing quite thin.

I'm sorry to be so blunt about it, but QNAP's silence on these issues, despite participation in the Surveillance Station Pro - only provide 1 free IPcam licence thread, is quite worrisome. Official Clarification on the part of QNAP, would go a long way toward increasing my comfort with their products, and business practices. Whether these proposed changes in Camera support are legal or not, is an exercise for lawyers and judges, but I personally find it morally bankrupt, regardless of the opinion of any court. I'm sticking with QNAP for now, but I have already started looking at competitors products, and their business practices with regards to post-sale licencing changes. Their handling of these issues so far, strikes me as Corporate Suicide.

As all of this is coming on the tail end of the v3.7.0 Upgrade fiasco, QNAP has a lot of damage control that needs to be done, to not only attract new customers, but to appease their existing customers. As more messages get posted about these issues, Googles indexing robots are making it increasing easy to find these messages, which is probably hurting QNAP's reputation even further. As it stands now, the topic keeps getting re-visited by QNAP customers, (and potential customers), which is making the thread grow. Leaving this issue unanswered is probably doing more damage to their reputation than a clarification would. I don't quite understand why QNAP is not providing an "official" clarification of their position. Their responses in the Surveillance Station Pro - only provide 1 free IPcam licence thread have not been very reassuring. I wish QNAP would clarify the issues with Surveillance Station Pro, particularly the licencing issue, so I can decide whether I want to switch to a different NAS provider for my future requirements or not.

Support for my Android device will be welcome, but I can already use the free Android App: IP Camera Viewer Basic to view my camera. I note no mention of Operating System or Browser support within their new Surveillance Station Pro product information release, which would suggest to me that the new product will suffer from many of the same limitations of the existing product. It will allow camera live view, PTZ control, instant event notifications, video snapshot, video playback, and video search by date and time, bringing forth comprehensive mobile surveillance solutions to satisfy the keen needs for security. I note that QNAP claims Surveillance Station Pro and it's related VMobile smartphone App will support iOS and Android devices and enable users to monitor the surveillance channels anytime and anywhere with mobile devices. I am not willing to pay an additional $165.00+taxes ($55 * 3 licences) to QNAP, just to support the 4 cameras already promised in my packaging. The complaints are coming from persons such as myself, who purchased a NAS that claims it supports 4 cameras, yet QNAP apparently believes they can lower to a single camera only despite packaging claiming 4 cameras supported. New NAS models will only support a single WebCam licence, with additional licences available for approximately $55/camera. QNAP proposed licencing of their Surveillance Station Pro is already causing complaints, see the message thread: Surveillance Station Pro - only provide 1 free IPcam licence.

I know QNAP is actively working on their new Surveillance Station Pro solution for full release later this year, but I have been unable to find any information on it's support for Non-Microsoft Operating Systems.

Until the Network Camera manufacturers start using more open protocols for their products, there is probably very little QNAP can do about it. It is therefore not entirely QNAP's fault. I note than many Network Camera's seem to require ActiveX, which is again a Microsoft-only software. Their QGET product is a little better in that it currently provides both Windows and MacOS clients, but still does not provide a Linux version, despite more than 3 years of development. QNAP claims support for Windows, MacOS, and Linux, but their practice demonstrates support for only Windows in some applications, with Surveillance station being a classic example.
#SURVEILLANCE CLIENT PLUGIN MAC CODE#
Is there some app that I can get or can QNAP please write the code to enable firefox or safari or chrome? Surveillance Station requires Internet Explorer, and therefore is incompatible with both MacOS and Linux, as Microsoft only releases Internet Explorer for their Windows family of operating systems.
